A fire pit gathers people around it. A fireplace gives them something to sit facing, and a wall to sit against. It is the difference between a circle of chairs and a room that happens to be outside.
Cal Flame builds nine, and the choice comes down to two questions: how tall, and how much mantel. The linear models like the Cabo and Monterey top out around five feet and keep sightlines open, which is the right answer when the fireplace sits between the patio and a view. The chimney models like the Indio, Cancun, Laredo and Key West stand six and a half to nearly seven feet and pull smoke well up and away from where anyone is sitting. Mantels range from none at all to the full wrap-around on the Tahiti, which at six feet wide is the largest in the line.
Every one carries a 90,000 BTU burner behind a 34 inch firebox, sits on a galvanized steel frame with one-piece construction, and is PFS certified to CSA 2.26 and ANSI Z21.60. Finishes are yours to choose, including fire glass in six colors, an optional screen with or without a door, and decorative cannon balls in place of a log set.
